Rationale

Context

Forge is a mobile application concept designed to introduce high school students to skilled trades through interactive simulation. Many students lack exposure to trade careers and often rely on passive research methods such as videos or brochures. The project focuses on transforming career exploration into a guided, hands-on digital experience that mirrors real-world trade workflows.

Outcome

Forge delivers an interactive simulation-based experience that allows students to explore trade careers step-by-step. By combining guided workflows, AI-driven explanations, and a structured backend architecture, the application demonstrates how mobile technology can make career discovery more practical, accessible, and engaging for younger audiences.

Approach

The application was required to present trade paths in a clear, structured format suitable for non-technical users. It needed secure authentication, a scalable backend, database integration, and input validation. The system also integrates AI to provide contextual explanations and personalized trade recommendations. The design prioritizes simplicity, mobile-first usability, and minimal friction to support student engagement.

Context

What it does

  • Simulates real trade workflows (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.)
  • Provides interactive, step-by-step project scenarios
  • Uses AI to explain tools, safety rules, and procedures
  • Recommends trade paths based on user interests
  • Tracks progress and skill familiarity
