what it does

  • Lend:
  • List items they own
  • Set daily/weekly rental price
  • Define deposit amount
  • Set availability calendar
  • Approve or auto-approve requests
  • Borrow:
  • Search by location + category
  • Filter by price, rating, availability
  • Pay rental fee + refundable deposit

rationale

Context

People often buy items they rarely use — tools, camping gear, party equipment, electronics. At the same time, others nearby need those same items temporarily but don’t want to buy them. Most existing platforms focus on selling, not structured short-term lending. Informal lending lacks secure payments, deposits, and trust systems. This leads to: - Wasted money - Underused items - Overconsumption - No safe way to rent locally

Requirements

A platform is needed that: - Allows users to lend items locally - Supports secure payments and refundable deposits - Includes user ratings and verification - Offers both rental and optional purchase

Outcome

LendItOut is a local marketplace where users can: - Rent items from people nearby - Earn money by lending unused items - Secure transactions with built-in deposit protection - Buy items if they decide to keep them
